isaac on the mountain

VAYERA (Genesis 18:1 - 22:24)
At night beings arrive at my gates with messages
from the caves. They demand a new oath,
a scorched earth policy. They want budgets burnt
for an offering, a sign of another covenant.
They want yesterday forgotten, a quality of life for the nations,
and I say, “Here I am. Count me in. Let me wash your feet.”
Finding laughter in the wilderness has its own ledger,
a balance of payments, charges against comfort.
Beings will demand their due yet offer flowing waters.
