TOLDOT (Genesis 25:19 - 28:9)

Sitting in my office bent over crosswords I hear a voice, “she’s here.”
Turning to look through the new glass door I gasp, “here I am.”

New wells shall be dug and bring forth a red stew, and masked in the garments
of his brother the heel grabber shall be blessed in the presence of the Lord.

Marlon Brando sat for days in the Optimo Cigar store, people watching.
Imagine him there, watching you, on 42nd Street, heading for the Studio.

On this painted Yom Kippur day the leaves sail down to kiss the earth, reminding us
that forgiveness is in our own hands, that redemption is to smile at dawn’s light.

When you stand by the window, tank top over spandex, in your Jays hat
and ready for a summer walk, I know that joy can be touched.
