the life and death of sarah

CHAYEI SARAH (Genesis 23:1 - 25:18)

Boat-shaped brows; memories surface.
lives that might have been before other winds
blew in from the east and then from the west.

In the end, scurrying across oceans water-stained happiness;
reduced all to a laugh, a bit of wetness on my lips.
Those other currents were delicious, the waves high.

Beneath it all a constant longing roiled,
a stream leading nowhere.
That death was my passenger I recognized too late in the day.
